How to Use NVIDIA DLDSR: Is It Better Than DSR?

NVIDIA’s DLDSR, or Deep Learning Dynamic Super Resolution, is an advanced image upscaling technology designed to improve the visual quality of games and applications on compatible GPUs. It leverages deep learning algorithms to provide superior image quality compared to traditional Dynamic Super Resolution (DSR) techniques. Below, we discuss what DLDSR is, how to use it, and how it outperforms DSR.

How to use NVIDIA DLDSR on any 3D game

NVIDIA DLDSR GeForce Control Panel

To use DLDSR, you will need a compatible NVIDIA graphics card (RTX 20, 30, and 40 series) and the latest version of the NVIDIA GeForce Experience software. Follow the steps below to enable DLDSR:

  • Install the latest NVIDIA GeForce Experience: Visit the NVIDIA website to download and install the GeForce Experience software. Ensure that your graphics card driver is up-to-date.
  • Open GeForce Experience: Launch the application and sign in with your NVIDIA account. You can create one for free if you do not have an account.
  • Right-click on the NVIDIA icon in your system tray and launch NVIDIA Control Panel.
  • In the left sidebar, choose “Manage 3D Settings.”
  • Under “Global Settings,” scroll down to “DSR – Factors.”
  • Check both settings under “DL scaling.”
  • Apply the new settings.
  • Go to “DSR – Smoothness” and check to ensure it’s on 33%.

Now, (almost) any game you run should use DLDSR. The only thing you should have to do in-game is to turn any Anti-Aliasing since DLDSR takes care of it. Otherwise, your image might look blurry.

What is NVIDIA DLDSR, and how’s it different from DSR?

DLDSR is an AI-based upscaling method that uses neural networks to intelligently upscale lower-resolution images to a higher resolution. Unlike DSR, which relies on simple scaling algorithms, DLDSR employs deep learning to analyze the input image and generate a more accurate and visually pleasing upscaled output. This results in a smoother, more detailed appearance with fewer artifacts and sharper textures.

DLDSR offers several advantages over traditional DSR techniques:

  • Enhanced image quality: DLDSR produces higher-quality upscaled images with more accurate and natural-looking textures. This results in a more immersive gaming experience.
  • Reduced artifacts: DLDSR minimizes the appearance of artifacts, such as aliasing and pixelation, which are common with traditional upscaling techniques. This leads to a cleaner and more visually pleasing image.
  • Adaptive scaling: DLDSR is designed to adapt to different types of content, ensuring optimal upscaling performance for each unique scenario.
  • Better performance: DLDSR’s deep learning algorithms are optimized for NVIDIA hardware, providing a more efficient upscaling process and reduced performance impact compared to traditional DSR methods.
