The medical examiner's office has identified the suspect shot and killed by Reno police earlier this week west of downtown.

Police say they attempted to stop Kristopher Gari, 25, in the area of the Maverick gas station on 4th St. and Keystone Ave. just before 2 a.m. on Nov. 18.

Authorities said Gari was wanted for multiple offenses including running from police on two separate occasions the prior weekend.

While trying to take Gari into custody, police say they got into a fight with the 25-year-old which ultimately led to the shooting.

The officer suffered minor injuries and Gari died from multiple gunshot wounds, the coroner's office announced on Wednesday.

The Sparks Police Department will take over the shooting investigation as part of the regional officer-involved shooting protocol.
